Independent Business Aviation Contract Professionals Association, Inc.

(formerly the Independent Contract Aviation Professionals of America, Inc. or ICAP America)

Our History

"IBACP Association" is the result of the collective efforts of a group of dedicated, self employed, independent contractors. We wanted to change the perception that an independent contract pilot (ICP) was simply one who couldn't hold a job, or was between jobs. In the wake of 9/11, we felt compelled to "raise the bar" on training and qualifications for the dedicated ICP to assure operators that they are getting the polished and secure professional that they need.

Our first successful attempt at getting all the ICP's together happened at the NBAA Convention in Orlando, 2002. We were surprised at the vendor interest in the groups goals and pre-screening concepts. There were as many vendors in attendance as there were ICP's. First ICP Breakfast in New Orleans

IBACP Association is a banding together of professional contractors for the mutual benefits of each other and the Business Aviation Industry.  IBACP is NOT an employment agency, nor do we guarantee employment to any of our members.

What's in a Name?

ICP Forum....The online forum developed by Charlie Watson, and later assumed by the late Warren Birmingham.

ICAA......Independent Contract Aviation Association. We added Flight Attendants and Maintenance Technicians to the list of eligible members.  This name was intended to be used for the IC Association that we were forming, but it ended up becoming the replacement name for the " ICP Forum"

ICAP America......Independent Contract Aviation Professionals of America, Inc.
Became the replacement name for "ICAA" when ICAA was used for the internet forum instead of the association. While we intended the forum and the association to work hand in hand at the beginning, they were always separate entities.  The creator of the name resigned from the Board of Directors in November 2002, and the name was assumed by the remaining members of the Board of Directors. A Written promise of association support and the transfer of the "icapamerica.com" domain name was made.  This encouraged the continued use of the ICAP America name." ICAPAmerica.org" was secured, a Florida nonprofit corporation started, and a website started with this domain name. Four months after the promised transfer, ICAPAmerica.com is still controlled by the original owner.  Rather than risk internet confusion, we have yet another name change.

IBACP Association......Independent Business Aviation Contract Professionals Association Inc. is replacing the legal name for the Florida corporation for nonprofit. Those previously appointed board members from the original breakfast meeting that wished to participate are currently serving on the Board of Directors for IBACP. There have been some changes and additions since the September appointments.
